Robert Sappio is a leader in the logistics and transportation industry with over 34 years of international and domestic experience. Sappio is presently the CEO of SeaCube Container Leasing, a global leader in equipment leasing serving the shipping industry, based in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey.
Prior to joining SeaCube Container Leasing, Sappio was President and CEO of Rickmers Group in the Americas, including Rickmers-Linie (America) based in Houston, Texas.
Mr. Sappio joined the Rickmers Group from his previous position as a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Business Consulting in San Francisco. At Alvarez and Marsal, Mr. Sappio served a broad range of clients on transportation, logistics and supply chain related matters.
Prior to joining Alvarez & Marsal, Mr. Sappio was a Senior Vice President for the leading container carrier APL where he served as the senior executive responsible for all of APL’s commercial activities in the Trans Pacific, Trans Atlantic and Latin American trades. During his over 29 year career with APL, Mr. Sappio held various executive positions both in Asia and in the United States. Mr. Sappio has extensive experience in all aspects of containerized ocean and intermodal transport, with particular emphasis on the Asia Pacific and Americas region. He has spent considerable time working with major US exporters and US importers, and is a familiar face in Washington DC on maritime related matters.
Mr. Sappio earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Wagner College in New York City. He has completed the Advanced Executive program at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. Mr. Sappio is an active member of the U.S. Navy League, the U.S. Naval Institute, and the Naval War College Foundation. He serves on the advisory board of the United States Maritime Resource Center, based in Rhode Island.
