Americold Partners with RSA Cold Chain and DP World to Bring a New State-of-the-Art Cold Chain Logistics Platform to Dubai

The new facility will offer multi-temperature capabilities and connect to DP World’s best-in-class logistics solutions

Americold Realty Trust, Inc. (NYSE: COLD), through its joint venture RSA Cold Chain in Dubai, today (12/12/23) announced plans to build and operate a new $35 million, state-of-the-art cold storage facility with 40,000 pallet positions, in the Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) in the Port of Jebel Ali in Dubai. This investment builds on the strategic collaboration between Americold and DP World, the leading provider of worldwide smart end-to-end supply chain logistics with a global port infrastructure.

The new facility will offer multi-temperature capabilities and connect to DP World’s best-in-class logistics solutions. Earlier this year, RSA Cold Chain entered into a long-term land lease agreement with DP World to support this development. Construction will start early 2024 and is expected to be completed by Q1 of 2025.

“The addition of critical temperature-controlled infrastructure and value-added services will enable a next generation cold chain offering in the Port of Jebel Ali in Dubai,” said George Chappelle, CEO of Americold. “Americold is committed to investing in new and innovative long-term solutions that optimize the cold chain from production to consumption and support our mission of helping our customers feed the world. This partnership with DP World provides unique synergies that create significant value for both local and global customers. We’re excited to bring this vision to life in Dubai with the first of many developments in the region.”

“As a global leader in end-to-end supply chain solutions, DP World is always looking for ways to innovate and expand its logistics capabilities. We are delighted to partner with Americold and RSA to provide our customers with best-in-class temperature-controlled solutions for perishable goods, strengthening the resilience of the F&B industry in the UAE and the Middle East,” said Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World, GCC.

In March 2023, Americold announced a strategic investment into RSA Cold Chain in Dubai. The investment provided a scalable, investable operating platform for market entry and expansion in the Middle East and India. Construction is already under way to double the capacity of the current RSA facility in Dubai South. This, combined with the new development at the DP World port, will more than triple current capacity in the Dubai market to more than 70,000 pallet positions.

Collaboration between Americold and DP World began in 2021 and was formalized in November of 2022 with the signing of a Global Partnership Agreement. The planned development in Jebel Ali will be the first-of-its-kind to combine Americold’s global temperature-controlled infrastructure with DP World’s port infrastructure and end-to-end logistics solutions. This strategic combination will result in unprecedented optimization of temperature sensitive food flows in and out of the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

This new multi-temp, multi-purpose facility will set the stage for future collaborative developments with DP World in the GCC that will further enhance the value proposition for Americold’s global customers that do business in this key global region.

Carrier Transicold Continues Long-Standing Relationship with Timothy Taylor’s with Two New Vector 1550 Units

The trailers join a 100% Carrier-cooled fleet used to deliver the brewery’s full range of beers

Timothy Taylor’s brewery has taken delivery of two new temperature-controlled trailers, each configured with a Carrier Transicold Vector® 1550 unit. Continuing a working relationship dating back more than 20 years, the trailers join a 100% Carrier-cooled fleet used to deliver the brewery’s full range of beers to customers across the UK. Carrier Transicold is a part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions.

The powerful Carrier Transicold Vector 1550 units are each mounted to 13.6-metre Lawrence David trailers, replacing older equivalent Carrier products in Timothy Taylor’s mixed commercial vehicle fleet. The new arrivals will operate Monday through Friday from the company’s brewery in Keighley, Yorkshire, which it has called home since 1858.

“Good beer needs to travel well. So, to ensure our beer is delivered to pubs in perfect condition, we rely on Carrier Transicold’s units to keep our casks at cellar temperature, whatever the weather,” said Chris Weatherill, Transport Manager at Timothy Taylor’s. “They keep our beers between 10°C and 12°C, allowing for the correct conditioning that gives our ales their clean and crisp flavour. So, however near or far from the brewery you are, you’re always going to get that taste of Taylor’s.”

Each Vector 1550 features Carrier Transicold’s E-Drive all-electric technology, which removes mechanical transmissions found in belt-driven truck and trailer refrigeration systems. Timothy Taylor’s will use its on-site solar panels to power the new Vector units overnight to maximise sustainability potential and streamline fleet operations.

The brewery continues to use the Carrier Transicold Vector 1550, as it delivers the ideal refrigeration solution for its transportation requirements, providing exceptional pull-down speeds and accurate set-point control. Without Carrier Transicold’s equipment, high external temperatures in the summer can adversely accelerate the second fermentation process, rupturing the casks and ruining the loads, whereas in the winter months the cold can create a chill haze on the beer affecting the clarity of the pint.

“As one of the UK’s most recognisable brands, we’re delighted that Timothy Taylor’s continues to place its trust in Carrier’s technology,” said Mark Ramsden, Key Account Manager, Carrier Transicold UK.

The customer’s new units are also backed by Carrier Transicold’s comprehensive BluEdge fixed-cost full-service maintenance package, which includes annual temperature control testing and certification, full F-Gas regulatory checks and access to the company’s oneCALL™ 24/7 incident management service.

Timothy Taylor’s new assets contribute to Carrier’s Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) goal of helping its customers avoid more than one gigaton of GHG emissions by 2030. Thermo King's BlueBox Lite enhances refrigeration unit connectivity, offering real-time data access and improved cold chain efficiency

Thermo King enhances refrigeration connectivity

Thermo King has unveiled its innovative BlueBox Lite telematics device. This new edition promises to boost the connectivity of vehicle-powered refrigeration units.

The advent of the BlueBox Lite provides a more economical solution for customers to procure not only temperature and positional data, but also key information from the control system of the vehicle-powered refrigeration units.

Such information may encompass setpoints, alarms, or operational hours. The device is equipped with 4G connectivity, enabling easy access to data through the Thermo King TracKing™ web portal, TK Reefer, or integration with a third-party platform or back-end system.

Key features of Thermo King’s BlueBox

Thermo King’s BlueBox Lite boasts several noteworthy features:

  • Access to near real-time data is made possible by a five-minute logging interval, which aids in improving response times.
  • It is a plug-and-play solution, thus reducing installation time and eliminating the need for a separate DataLogger to obtain temperature data. Unlike other telematics solutions that require temperature probes, the BlueBox Lite can be easily installed and directly connected to the refrigeration units’ controller.
  • It is an EN12830 compatible solution when paired with the optional TouchLog datalogger.
  • A 2-way command for SetPoint change enables remote control of the load temperature.

Improving cold chain efficiencies

“Connectivity is something not to be missed for companies looking to improve the efficiency of their cold chain operations,” said Mike McEnnis, Portfolio Leader Product Management.

“By introducing the BlueBox Lite telematics device for our V-Series, VX-Series and B-Series range, we want to make it easier for our customers to take advantage of the data and make their operations smarter. The BlueBox Lite is a plug-and-play, 4G solution that gives them a cost-efficient and easy way to receive real-time intelligence on the operation of their refrigerated vehicle.”
