South Africa’s Perishable Products Export Control Board PPECB has gone live with electronic, paperless container inspections to improve efficiency and visibility in the ocean freight export value chain for perishable foods.
The news follows an announcement in March that PPECB’s R&D unit has embarked on a project to monitor the efficiency of air freight to export perishable products. The trial covers cut flowers, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. The main objective of the air freight project is to monitor product temperature throughout the export value chain, from field to target market, and report on product quality.
