Join us at Cool Logistics Global conference as we tackle the challenges of the cold chain together

Join us at Cool Logistics Global conference as we tackle the challenges of the cold chain together
Rachael White

We spoke to Rachael White, Cool Logistics’ Founder and CEO about Cool Logistics Global 2022, taking place 20-22 September, hosted by the Port of Barcelona.

“Our conference agenda for the 14th Cool Logistics Global is well and truly bursting at the seams with quality speakers who are ready to share their expertise. Together, we will tackle the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for the global cold supply chain”.

As world trade in perishables faces some of the most challenging conditions ever, reefer shippers and cargo owners are coming to Cool Logistics Global to share their experiences and explore solutions from production to consumption.

Reefer shipping and other parts of the cold chain have been under pressure for some time now and supply chain disruption is predicted to remain a feature well into 2023.

In its latest assessment, industry analyst Drewry – speaking at the conference in September –  warns that “the reefer supply chain is at a precarious moment with extremely high input costs for materials such as fertilizer, packaging and energy, to name just a few. Freight rates remain unsustainably high and many BCOs, particularly those moving low value products, are shipping less as they are priced out of the market.”

“Cool Logistics Global is the leading forum for all stakeholders across the cold supply chain to come together and learn, understand and share” says Rachael. “We have successfully built a conference programme that will speak to every section of our industry, from production to consumption”.

“There will also be a lot of time for fun! Our networking events -from a port tour to an icebreaker event, the official port reception with live music through to wine and cheese tasting will give our delegates time to unwind and relax in beautiful surroundings in Barcelona”.

On a final note Rachael adds “we are so looking forward to seeing our ‘cool’ community once more!”.

Reefer rates defy global spot trends on North Europe to Far East trades

Rates for equivalent reefers are bucking the trend
Maersk reefers

While spot rates for ‘dry standard’ FEUs are declining on the world’s key global trading corridors, the rates for equivalent reefers are bucking the trend on the North Europe to Far East route.

According to the latest market intelligence from Xeneta, which crowd sources real-time ocean freight rate data from leading shippers, the average 40’ HC reefer spot rate stood at a mighty USD 5 230 for the trade on 23 August, compared to dry standard FEUs at USD 980. At this point two years ago, September 2020, the reefer spot rate was USD 4 000.

International Institute of Container Lessors issues technical alert on damage to reefer interior panels

Concern that disinfection measures could be damaging interior panels

One of the key measures in China’s zero-COVID strategy is the widespread application of disinfectants to surfaces that are suspected to have been exposed to COVID-19, and as a preventative measure on packaging and objects being imported into the country. This includes reefer containers.
