British unaware that banana yields under threat

Many British consumers are unaware of the threats  that climate change poses to UK supplies of bananas, cocoa and coffee. The consumer survey, commissioned by the Fairtrade Foundation and run by Opinium, reveals that whilst public understanding of the links between decent incomes for farmers and climate resilience is low, there is a strong public willingness to address inequality caused by exploitative trade and climate change.

A summit held by the UK Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai revealed veganism is not the solution to the food crisis. Cool News and Views – February 2022

February 2022

Welcome to February’s edition of Cool News and Views.

Our team is busy preparing for CoolTech – a Cool Logistics event – our first ever forum focussed entirely on technological innovation across the cold chain taking place 21-22 June at the Hilton Hotel, Rotterdam . We welcome papers and contributions, so contact us if you’d like to participate by getting in touch with our Managing Director rachael@coollogisticsconference.com.

The reefer container continues to dominate the news headlines, which will be of no surprise to our Cool Logistics community. Firstly, our colleagues at Drewry Shipping Consultancy report that growth in the perishables sector in 2021 has driven the huge demand for reefers and contributed to an overall increase of 14% in the global fleet.  And most recently, we have shared news of perishables exporters using reefer vessels to ship their product as the global container shortage continues.

If you would like to contribute to a future edition of our Cool News and Views newsletter, we would like to hear from you! Have you written an article, or do you have company news to share? Get in touch with us by contacting helen@coollogisticsconference.com with your idea.

On a final note, don’t forget to save the dates for our 14th Cool Logistics Global, taking place from 20-22 September at the World Trade Centre in Barcelona with our host the Port of Barcelona.  We’ll be releasing our early agenda soon!
