Fruit farmers in Southern Africa have been planting a large number of trees across the Southern African landscape. Increased volume of fruit production has materialized from certain areas with drought and climate change affecting production in other areas. With all the new trees planted across the landscape and differing climatic conditions affecting production in the short term. What areas, which categories and what volume of fruit is the likely to be produced and exported in the future. Mitchell Brooke from Fruit South Africa will be giving an overview of the Southern African fruit landscape at a glance; with an emphasis on the foreseeable demand on transportation, cold storage capacity, container equipment, port terminal developments and trade lanes.
In conjunction, Mitchell will outline South Africa’s readiness to adhere to the EU Commission Plant Health Legislation Directive 2017/1279 effective 1 January 2018.
